NFPA 70E (2018) Electrical Safety for Supervisors and Managers in All Industries Online Course Description: This is an advanced online safety course updated to reflect the changes to the NFPA 70E standard for 2018. This course addresses electrical safety in the workplace under the NFPA 70E standard, emphasizing supervisory and management responsibilities for ensuring safe working practices around electrical hazards. Course topics include a discussion of the importance of NFPA 70E and how the standard is organized, requirements for an electrical safety program, establishing and verifying an electrically safe work condition, energized electrical work, shock and arc flash risk assessments and approach boundaries. Requirements for equipment labeling, illumination, housekeeping, confined spaces, flammable materials, and personal protective equipment are also covered, all from a management perspective.

This course is intended to provide NFPA 70E guidance for supervisors, managers, and electricians in any industry where exposure to electrical current is greater than 50 volts. Basic training in electrical safety is assumed prior to taking the course.

Several significant changes have been made in the 2018 edition of NFPA 70E, including the following:

  • Updates to procedures for creating risk assessments
  • Increased emphasis on the use of the hierarchy of risk controls when evaluating and implementing controls
  • More logical step by step guidelines in Article 120 for establishing an electrically safe work condition
