Fall Rescue Course

Fall Rescue Course Description: The course is designed to further educate Competent Persons on personal fall arrest systems and the considerations related to rescuing a worker should they become suspended. A fall arrest system is only effective if the ability to rescue the suspended worker is planned for ahead of time, and the means and equipment to do so are readily available.

Participants will learn how to assess the work environment, limit the necessity for fall arrest systems, develop a self or assisted rescue plan, select fall rescue equipment, identify responsibilities of a rescue team, and determine how to successfully execute various rescue techniques.

Curriculum covers the principles of fall rescue, regulatory requirements, suspension trauma potentials, rescue team roles, and the basic and various techniques used to retrieve a worker suspended in a fall arrest system. The course includes professional classroom theory instruction, participant handouts, group activities, and final written exam.

Fall Rescue Field Exercise and Practical Evaluation: Course includes practical hands-on training on worker safety while performing fall rescue activities to maintain or advance their rescue knowledge and skills. Participants will practice making fall rescues by simulating rescue operations in which they recover or retrieve manikins or workers from a suspended position. Participants will be exposed to heights during exercises and must demonstrate their ability to implement or use fall protection devices and equipment, while performing rescue activities.

Who Should Attend: Required for employees who would assist in the retrieval of a suspended worker. Initial training and annual recertification training or earlier due to equipment or workplace changes.
