MSHA Part 46 Annual Refresher 

Course Description: This course is designed to meet MSHA Part 46 regulatory requirements. Training includes the mining environment and the health and safety aspects of operations and tasks. The training includes instruction on changes at the mine that could adversely affect the miner’s health or safety. The refresher training also addresses other health and safety subjects relevant to the mine operations.

Who Should Attend: Each miner or an independent contractor performing work on surface mines must receive a minimum of 8 hours of annual refresher training at least once every 12 months.

Important Considerations

Completion Requirements: Participants are required to be present and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on exercises and written exam to receive certification. The presentation and materials are in English (Spanish courses are to schedule available upon request).

Certificate of Completion: Upon successful completion of training, participants will receive a certificate and card of completion. The participants will also receive the MSHA 5000-23 Training form listing the topics covered in the course. Northwest Safety does not sign the MSHA 5000-23 form, this form is generally signed by the mine operator or a person acting on behalf of the operator. For example, a company safety official, a trainer employed or contracted by the operator, or a cooperative instructor (such as a state grantee).

Compliance: Northwest Safety training instructors will need to be listed on your company’s MSHA Training Plan to meet regulatory compliance. Additional information and instruction will be provided during the course.

Learning Aids: Participants should come prepared with a notepad and pen. Guides and handouts will be provided at the start of the course. We will be covering a great deal of information in a short period of time; your punctuality will be greatly appreciated.

Course Length: Minimum of 8 hours including classroom theory and activities.

Cancellation notices must be received a minimum of 48 hours in advance for refunds. An administrative processing fee of $10.00 will be charged for all refunds.

MSHA Part 46 New Miner 

MSHA Part 46 New Miner Course Description: This course is designed to meet MSHA Part 46 regulatory requirements. Training includes the mining environment and the health and safety aspects of operations and tasks. Course covers topics such as statutory rights of miners, first aid, emergency procedures, hazard recognition and avoidance.

Who Should Attend: Required for participants beginning employment as a miner or an independent contractor performing work on surface mines. Each new miner must receive no less than 24 hours of training. Part 46 applies to shell dredging, sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate, and surface limestone mines. If your work is in other MSHA regulated operations or you are an independent contractor that operates in other types of mining operations, you may be required to complete Part 48 training instead.
